Heatflow Calculator

An underfloor heating calculator that helps users estimate heat output quickly and accurately

Year :

2026

Project Duration :

3 weeks

Problem :

Calculating underfloor heating requirements is often confusing for homeowners and time-consuming for professionals. Existing tools are either overly technical, difficult to use, or lack clarity in explaining results. This creates uncertainty during planning and can lead to incorrect system sizing or poor decision-making.

Solution :

I designed HeatFlow as a focused underfloor heat calculator that simplifies complex calculations into a clear, step-by-step experience. The interface guides users through essential inputs such as room size, insulation level, and flooring type, then presents results in an easy-to-understand format. A clean layout, minimal distractions, and clear labels ensure the tool is approachable for both professionals and non-technical users.

Challenge :

The main challenge was translating technical heating calculations into a user-friendly experience without compromising accuracy. Balancing simplicity with precision required careful prioritization of inputs and thoughtful result presentation. Another challenge was designing the calculator to feel trustworthy and professional while remaining fast and easy to use.

Summary :

This HeatFlow case study demonstrates my ability to design practical, utility-driven digital tools. By simplifying technical data and focusing on clarity and usability, HeatFlow helps users make confident decisions during underfloor heating planning. The project highlights my strengths in problem-solving, information hierarchy, and functional UX design.
